Evidence of the widespread, planned and systematic violation of Human Rights in Iran
According to our data, during the period of October 2005 to September
2006, 282 people have either been executed (111 people / 39 %) or have
been condemned to the death penalty (171/ 61 %). Another 279 people who
had been condemned to the death penalty before October 2005 are awaiting
execution, raising the total number of people on the list of our annual
report to 561.
By looking at the list of people who have already been executed, we can
note that:
Amongst the 111 cases of execution that have been listed, 106
are men, and 5 are women;
The number of executions has increased by 46 %;
The information regarding 97 individuals remains incomplete; amongst
these, the identity of 22 persons has never been revealed;
8 people were under the age of 18 when they were accused of a crime;
The number of political prisoners execution has increased threefold
to attain 6;
48 people have been publicly executed in 23 different cities (all
in the provinces); 2 of these individuals were stoned to death;
Only in 31 cases, the information on the age of the persons executed
was available. Amongst them, 23 people were under 30, while the oldest
person was 37 years of age.;
The identity of 4 people has not been revealed.
With regards to the people who are awaiting execution, the following
points need to be underscored:
171 cases have been identified, amongst them 11 women and 160 men;
14 people are political activists;
Only in 70 cases is the information on the age of the people awaiting
execution available. Amongst them, 4 are under the age of 18, 49 are between
the ages of 18 and 30, and 17 are over the age of 30;
4 people were under the age of 18 when they were accused of a crime;
For 160 people, the information is incomplete and amongst them
the identity of 25 people remains unknown;
The city of Teheran, with 97 cases (58 %) of individuals awaiting
execution, ranks first amongst the Iranian cities. The rest are dispersed
amongst the cities and the provinces;
Having added the other 279 persons who have already sentenced to
death penalty in the period preceding our Annual Report, the total number
of people who are on death row is increased to 450.

At least 108 people were executed, often in public. The death penalty
was carried out on long-term political prisoners, apparently to intimidate
political or ethnic groups such as Kurds and Arabs..
